Dear Families,

Welcome back!  I hope everyone their nice long break.  Thanks again for your generosity with the party. January is a VERY busy month with lots of important dates to remember.  Please read this over and mark your calendars!  We have put these important dates on your child’s monthly calendar for you as well but if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for staying tuned in with what is happening in our classrooms! 

 

Home        Please continue to work on the Home Links. They are great practice for

Links         your child and they let you know what your child has been learning. It also gives

your child the opportunity to teach you the skills he/she has learned. Remember that returning homework, both Home Links and Book It, is part of being a responsible 2nd grader.

 

Spelling     Starting with the next spelling test ( January 14th), I will be marking words

Tests       incorrect if there are capital letters/lowercase letter in the wrong place or I just can’t read it.  We need to be paying more attention to these important details.  You will also see more printing practice sheets coming home as well.

 

Acting Up   All of the 2nd grade classes will be writing and performing their own plays with the help of the Acting Up Theatre Company. We will be working on our play for the week (1/27-1/31) and will be performing it on Friday, January 31st at 1:30 pm. Mark your calendars so you can come and watch.  It is sure to be a spectacular event! 

 

Recess         The weather can be VERY cold as we all know so please be sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess.  We go out each day for 30 minutes unless the temperature is below zero. Some of the children aren’t even bringing hats and mittens!

 

Jury Duty   Unfortunately, I have been selected for jury duty for this month.  It is mostly

               Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  It is almost every day during the week of

                     Acting Up.  I just wanted everyone to aware in case you were wondering why I

                     kept having a sub.  We will make the best of it and the children will be able to

                     show a sun just how independent and intelligent they truly are!

 

Website      I have to apologize for my newsletters not being on my website in November

               and December.  I have been having trouble posting them but will continue to

                      try.  I have also had trouble posting pictures.  I am trying to avoid making a

                      new website midyear but may have no other choice.  I will keep you posted!

Popcorn     January 10th and January 24th are popcorn days this month. The cost is $.50 a bag.
