Dear Families,

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a nice relaxing break.  January is a VERY busy month with lots of important dates to remember.  Please read this over and mark your calendars!  We have put these important dates on your child’s monthly calendar for you as well but if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for staying tuned in with what is happening in our classroom!

Home        Please continue to work on the Home Links. This packet is due January 21st. They

Links         are great practice for your child and they let you know what your child has been

learning. It also gives your child the opportunity to teach you the skills he/she

has learned. Remember that returning homework, both Home Links and Book It,

is part of being a responsible 2nd grader.

Acting Up   All of the 2nd grade classes will be writing and performing their own plays with the help of the Acting Up Theatre Company. We will be working on our play for the week (1/28-2/1) and will be performing it on Friday, February 1st at 1:30 pm. Mark your calendars so you can come and watch.  It is sure to be a spectacular event!

Recess         The weather is getting colder so please be sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess.  We go outside for 30 minutes each day unless the temperature is below zero. Some of the children aren’t even bringing hats and mittens!

Christmas   Due to the school closing early prior to Christmas, we will be didn’t get a chance

Party        to have our pizza party.  We will be ordering pizza on Friday, January 11th

during lunch. If you were planning on sending in treats for the party please

send them in at this time.

Writing     We will be starting a unit on informational writing soon.  The children will be

choosing a topic to research and create a written project using the information.

The children enjoy this type of writing.  Ask your child about his/her topic and

                   the information he/she has learned.
